"First Baptist Church of Matthews is a community of Christ followers who are Motivated by God's Glory, Transformed by God's Grace, and Empowered by God's Spirit."
This statement reflects what we believe God wants us to be and do as a church. We desire to follow Jesus Christ. We do that as individuals and we do that as a church family because Jesus Christ is the head of the church.
We are motivated by God's Glory in worship. We believe that all of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God. All that we do should be done as an act of worship to God for His glory (Colossians 3:23, 1 Corinthians 10:31).
We are being transformed by God's Grace in discipleship. God transforms us by His grace within a spiritual community (Acts 2:42-27). The larger spiritual community is the whole church, but this is made smaller and more intimate through Shepherd Groups.
We are Empowered by God's Spirit for ministry, missions, and evangelism. The Great Commission is to make disciples of all the nations (Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:19-20). This begins here in Charlotte and extends around the whole world. We can only do this as a church as we are empowered by God's Spirit!
